The Saturdays Shine on Fourth Album

Last month The Saturdays released their fourth record and their American debut album Living for the Weekend. The group is made up of five women from England and Ireland and their infectious brand of pop music has sorely been missed since the demise of girl group greats such as Destiny's Child, Pussycat Dolls and Danity Kane.
There are so many great songs on this record but the three best were released as singles. "What About Us" is a reggae inspired song that features Sean Paul. While this version was released abroad the solo Saturdays version was released as their debut American single. The song is catchy and features lyrics pleading to give love a second chance. "Gentleman" is an R&B song about how hard it is to find a gentleman in this day and age. The song features sassy vocals by the band and it's pure fun. "Disco Love" is a disco inspired song about falling in love and features nostalgic lyrics.
"We got the disco love, so fun and colorful/ It's never winter when it's Donna Summer all year long/ You take me back in time, to 1979/ We'll be at the Bee Gees, baby everybody staying alive," The girls sing before the chorus.
The girls experiment with different genres. There's R&B cuts like "Leave a Light On," "Lease My Love" and "You Don't Have the Right." Most of the album though is straight up dance-pop cuts. "Not Giving Up" is a house inspired song about not giving up on love. "30 Days" and "Anywhere With You" are dance cuts that deal with being apart from significant others while on tour. "Problem With Love" is a fast song about the ups and downs of relationship and has a dubstep inspired breakdown. "Don't Let Me Dance Alone" is a dance song about wanting to go out dancing while their boyfriends want too stay in. The album closes with "Somebody Else's Life" which is about how sometimes life is so good, you can't believe it.
The Saturdays are a girl group to get excited about. Their American debut is great and hopefully they blow up like they deserve.

Jessica Sutta Does It Again

Former Pussycat Doll Jessica Sutta released two great singles after leaving the now defunct girl group. 2010's "I Wanna Be Bad" and 2011's stupendously catchy "Show Me." Both songs showed different sides of Sutta while both being fast dance anthems.
Sutta Pop, Sutta's debut album was due for release in 2012 but never saw a release. After being let go by her record label, Hollywood Records, Sutta went into the studio and kept pushing on with her debut. Last month Sutta released her new single "Again." This dance anthem is all about moving on from the past and not letting troubles get you down. Sutta's lyrics and vocal performance are great and while the song isn't as good as her other ones, it's definitely enough to get Sutta noticed.
This song is destined for radio greatness. Hopefully Sutta will be the first Pussycat Doll to have true solo success. Sutta Pop is due out this year.

Cee Lo releases amazing new single

Last week Cee Lo Green released his first single off of his fourth album. The song is a duet with Lauriana Mae. The album has no title or release date but if it's anything like his previous album, we're in for a great album.
The sunny, soulful "Only You" is a fun, uplifting song that is a duet between Green and Mae. The song is about a couple and how only they can make the other one feel good when things get bad. This is easily the best R&B song of the year. Cee Lo is known for writing hits for Pussycat Dolls, Kelis and Lil' Kim but he's also known for being the frontman of the amazing band Gnarles Barkley as well as having solo hits like 2010's "Fuck You."
The music for the song is fun and makes you want to move while the lyrics cause smiles for a two mile radius. It's good to hear Cee Lo write a positive song after the huge success of "Fuck You" which was a little angry despite being a fun song.
The single is an excellent choice for a first single and hopefully it will bring him even greater success. Cee Lo took a season off of judging The Voice so we can expect more new music soon. The album is expected sometime this year.

Nicole Scherzinger tackles haters on new dance anthem

Former Pussycat Doll singer Nicole Scherzinger has had two failed solo albums. Her Name is Nicole was never released anywhere and her impeccable Killer Love was only released overseas and was scrapped in the US. Killer Love featured two of the best songs of 2011, the single "Don't Hold Your Breath" and the synth rocking title track.
Nicole released the music video for her single "Boomerang" from her as yet untitled sophomore solo album. While the single isn't being released on iTunes until March, the video is quite enough. The single has no US release date but Scherzinger wants this album to come out worldwide.
The song is an uptempo dance ditty about surviving life's obstacles. "I can take the hit/ cause I'm a boomerang," Scherzinger sings on the chorus.
Everything about this song is great. The beat is very catchy, the lyrics are uplifting and her vocals are insane; especially in the bridge. While it isn't the best Scherzinger has released it is a good preview of things to come. Hopefully Scheerzinger's album has more jams like this.
